On the Starbucks website, the ingredient list for the standard Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew is revealing: Ice, Brewed Coffee, Vanilla Sweet Cream, Vanilla Syrup.2
Did you catch it? Vanilla syrup is listed twice.
It’s an ingredient within the sweet cream, but it’s also added separately to the coffee itself.
The customization screen for a Grande confirms this, showing “2 Vanilla Syrup pumps, Default”.1
I cross-referenced this with the Vanilla Sweet Cream Nitro Cold Brew.
The Nitro version is famous for its creamy texture without needing as much added cream or sugar.
Its ingredient list is shorter: BREWED COFFEE, VANILLA SWEET CREAM […].7
The second, separate addition of vanilla syrup is gone.
And the nutritional difference is stunning: a Grande Nitro has just 70 calories and 4 grams of sugar, a full 40 calories and 10 grams of sugar less than my standard cold brew.7
The “double dose” of sugar in the regular version, hidden in plain sight across two parts of the ingredient list, was the primary culprit.
